Confident Kentucky

Schedule

A pilot program to introduce the state’s new card versions of licenses, permits, and IDs began in the summer 2019 in two counties – Franklin and Woodford. The Kentucky Transportation is monitoring performance and is making improvements to build a better system before resuming pilot testing in other counties. Current Kentucky driver’s licenses will remain valid for U.S. air travel, military base entry and entry into restricted federal buildings (like nuclear power plants and the White House) until Oct. 1, 2020. Check the rollout schedule below often for updates of when new cards will become available in counties. Current card versions will remain valid until their expiration date. Once available in your county of residence, applicants may request the new card versions at the Circuit Court Clerk’s office when you’re within six month of your card’s expiration date or if you want to maintain travel and federal access benefits using a state-issued credential. Cards will be mailed to applicants 5 to 10 business days later.
