Review the following details before you start the process:

• Vehicles registered in different counties must be renewed separately.
• Leased vehicles cannot be renewed online.
• Vehicles must have a current registration.
• Owners cannot have overdue property taxes on any vehicles they own.
• Vehicles must be insured by a company registered with the Kentucky Department of Insurance. If your insurance was obtained within the last 45 days, it may not yet appear in the system. If this occurs, renew in person at your County Clerk’s office.
• Certain military personnel may qualify for a vehicle Ad Valorem tax exemption under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. Contact your county Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) to determine eligibility. Find your county PVA.

A boat is eligible for web renewal if you meet all the following requirements:

• The registration of the boat must be active and within the current registration period. The expiration date at the time of renewal must be April 30 of the current year.
• The owner of the boat cannot have overdue property taxes on any other vehicles, including boats, that they own.
• All owners listed on the boat cannot have any PVA or tax segment issues on any owned vehicles.
• The county selected during web renewal must match the County of Dockage (Situs County) or County of Residence. Situs County and County of Residence can be found on the Boat Renewal Notice Card.

• Online renewal is not complete until the County Clerk processes the transaction. Please allow at least 5 business days for processing and mailing of your registration credentials.
• A $2.00 mailing fee per vehicle will be added to each transaction. Online renewal services are provided by a third-party vendor in partnership with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and a portion of the fees supports Kentucky.gov, the state’s official web portal.
• Accepted payment methods: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
