Before visiting a Kentucky Driver Licensing Regional Office, ensure you're fully prepared to save time and streamline your experience. Popup Driver Licensing Program locations are available in select counties statewide. This traveling service brings all the services offered in Driver Licensing Regional Offices to local communities that don't have a regional office. Schedule an appointment for a Popup Event below.
The Kentucky State Police performs all written and driver testing in Kentucky. To schedule a written or driver testing appointment, you must visit the
KSP website.

- Appointments are highly recommended, but if one doesn’t align with your schedule needs, check to see if the office is currently accepting walk-ins BEFORE you travel to the office.
- All offices accept credit/debit, cash, personal checks, certified checks, and money orders as payment.
FOR FIRST TIME ISSUANCE, TRANSFER OR APPLYING FOR A REAL ID

Proof of Identity:
- One (1) identity document (e.g., birth certificate or passport).

Proof of Social Security Number:
- One (1) document (first-time and out-of-state applicants must bring their Social Security card as proof).

Proof of Kentucky Residency:
- One (1) proof of residency dated within the past year (e.g., utility bill or lease).
- REAL ID applicants need to bring two (2) proofs of residency.

Name Change Documentation (if applicable):
If your current legal name, date of birth, or gender differs from the information on your identity document, provide legal proof of the changes (e.g., marriage license, divorce decree, or court order).
FOR A LICENSE/ID CARD RENEWAL
- No additional documents are required if the information on your expiring credential is up to date.
FOR AN ADDRESS/ NAME CHANGE
Name Change: One (1) legal document is required (e.g., birth certificate, name change court order, marriage license, or divorce decree).
For Duplicate/Replacement Cards
- No additional documentation is required if the information on your current credential is up to date.

NEW VISION SCREENING REQUIREMENT
- Beginning January 1, 2025, a vision screening will be required to renew a Kentucky driver’s license. Learn more HERE.
First-Time Applicants: Ensure you’ve successfully completed all required tests, such as vision and knowledge exams. These tests are scheduled through the
Kentucky State Police website.
Out-of-State Transfers: Bring your current out-of-state license, birth certificate, Social Security card, and proof of Kentucky residency. Learn more

If your license has been suspended for more than one (1) year, you’ll need to retake the written and vision tests. Schedule your testing appointment through the
Kentucky State Police website.
