Kentucky’s New Driver Licensing System

Kentucky is upgrading its driver licensing system to better serve you. Beginning June 8, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will launch a modern, secure system that brings more online services, faster processing, and a more convenient experience for Kentuckians. What’s Changing

Kentucky’s new system will replace the state’s nearly 40-year-old driver licensing platform and introduce myDrive for online services.

Service Pause

Online driver services will pause on June 3, and all Driver Licensing Regional Offices will be closed June 4–5.

Take Action Now

If your credential expires in June, you are strongly encouraged to renew early to avoid delays during the transition.

Important Information

Commercial Driver License (CDL) Updates

Commercial drivers and permit holders should be aware of the following changes beginning June 8.

  • The current MyCDL portal will be discontinued on June 3. Beginning June 8, all CDL online services will transition to KYTC's new online services portal, myDrive.
  • Medical certificates will now be submitted electronically by approved providers directly to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

Online Driver Services Portal

A simpler way to manage driver services online

myDrive is Kentucky’s new driver services online portal. Starting June 8, customers can create an account to access eligible services, manage information, and stay connected to important updates.

With myDrive, you can:

  • Start your application before your visit Pre-apply for a license, permit, or ID to save time and arrive with the right documents. Written permit and road tests must still be scheduled on the Kentucky State Police website.
  • Complete eligible services online Renew or replace your credential online when eligible. License renewal requires a completed vision screening.
  • Update information and track status Update your address, check your license status, and track the production status of your credential.
  • Pay a Reinstatement Fee and Submit an IID Application Eligible customers may pay their reinstatement fee and submit an IID application through the portal.
  • Manage reminders and communications View official messages, sign up for reminders, add an emergency contact, and more.

Creating your account early may help save time later when you need to renew, update information, or complete services online.

Kentucky is moving to a more modern driver licensing experience. Plan ahead for temporary changes in June and check back for updates.
