Schedule Testing Appointment
Schedule a written and vision test appointment with the Kentucky State Police.

Complete Pre-Application
Before your KSP testing appointment, complete your pre-application in MyDrive. You will need to create a myDrive account to access the pre-application.

Bring Required Documents
Bring all required documents to your testing appointment.

Receive Your Permit
- After passing the written and vision tests, visit the Regional Office to receive your learner’s permit.
- A permit is $15.00 ($18.00 REAL ID).
- A temporary paper permit will be issued until your permanent credential arrives in the mail.
If you fail the written test, you may return the next available day to retake it.

Practice Driving
- You must hold your permit for 30 days before taking the road skills test.
- A licensed driver age 21 or older must remain in the passenger seat while you are driving.

Schedule Road Test Appointment
After holding your permit for 30 days, schedule a road skills test appointment with the Kentucky State Police.

Bring a Licensed Driver
A licensed driver age 21 or older must accompany you to the testing site.

Road Test Vehicle Requirements
Vehicles used during testing must be properly registered and insured. One of the following is accepted as proof:
- Insurance card
- Current insurance policy
- Insurance binder from an agent
Rental cars must have the driver’s name listed on the rental contract as an operator.

- After passing the road test, visit a Driver Licensing Regional Office to receive your driver’s license.
- A temporary paper license will be issued until your permanent credential arrives in the mail.
If you fail the road test, you must wait seven days before retaking it.
