The Graduated Driver Licensing program aims to reduce the overall number of crashes involving teenage drivers, especially the high number of deadly crashes involving teens. This program is only required for drivers obtaining their original permit between the ages of 15 and 17. It uses an intermediary period between the learner's permit and a full, unrestricted license. During the intermediary phase, teenagers will have an intermediate license. They can drive on their own, but with two restrictions on their driving privileges.

Yes. You can renew a permit up to six months before the expiration date. If your permit has been expired for over one year, you will need to start the process over by retaking the written and vision tests.

Drivers who turn 18 while holding an Intermediate License may apply for a full, unrestricted license once they have completed the Graduated Licensing Program (GLP) course, regardless of how long they have held the Intermediate License.
